Delivered!

After arriving at the Naidovi School Jim and Althea Faruk were greeted by the children with songs and dances.  The children wondered why I wasn't there, but Althea read them a letter I had written to them.  She told me how much they loved getting backpacks and school supplies - that things like that are very expensive in Fiji and many families can not afford them.  It was so exciting for me to see pictures of the children receiving the backpacks I made for them!

Here is my letter to the students:

Hello my name is Susie Sugden, I am 16 years old and I am a Girl Scout from California!  I have known Althea since I was a little girl and have heard so many stories about her, her family and where she grew up.

When I heard that she was traveling back to Fiji and wanted to bring things to share with her family and friends … I knew I wanted to help her.  When my family, friends and fellow Girl Scouts heard they also wanted to help.

Since I really believe in the importance of education I wanted to put together backpacks with school supplies for students in her community.  In school I have learned about Malala Yousafzai and the brave way she is fighting for all children to have the opportunity to go to school.  I am grateful for my opportunity to go to school and hope that you are too.  She says something that I love!

“One Child,
One Teacher,
One Book &
One Pen
Can Change the World”

That means you and me!  Together we can change the world!

I hope that you enjoy the things I put together for you and I wish you all the best of luck as you continue your education!

Love,

Susie

Thank you all for supporting my Girl Scout Gold Project -
together we can change the world!

Ready to go!

All 100 bags are packed and ready to go - Emily and Jim Faruk will now ship them to Fiji and distribute them when they arrive.  I can't wait!
